Systemic functional linguistics

A series of research projects are bringing together LCT with SFL in innovative and fruitful ways to explore a wide variety of issues.  These studies are at the cutting-edge of theoretical development in both social realist sociology of education and SFL and are leading to the emergence of exciting new ideas that span between disciplines.

CUMULATIVE LEARNING

What enables or constrains cumulative learning, where what is learned builds on and integrates past understanding, is the focus of a major study of history and biology in secondary schooling, involving Karl Maton and J.R. Martin.  It brings together Specialisation, Semantics and Temporality from LCT with Appraisal Theory from SFL.  This research is being funded by the following grant:
